Objectives

  • House six ToastSats for QSET’s high-altitude balloon program
  • Deliver CAD, engineering analysis and a working prototype
  • Meet safety, visibility, durability and waterproofing requirements

Approach

  • Evaluated three interior and exterior concepts against design criteria
  • SolidWorks stress, buoyancy, wind, freefall and heat-transfer analysis
  • Physical testing to evaluate performance
03

Results

  • Functional, low-cost design
  • Stayed above -25°C for three hours in simulated stratosphere conditions
  • Survived a drop test with minor damage
